Red yeast rice, which corresponds to rice fermented with the red mould Monascus purpureus, has been used to enhance the colour and flavour of foods for centuries in China, but it has also been used as a traditional medicine for digestive and vascular health. Today, red yeast rice is used in Western countries as a food supplement and is recognised for its cholesterol-lowering properties.This porridge can be found on the intersection of Nguyen Chi Thanh and Thai Phien street. The restaurant opens between 5 a.m to 8 p.m, serving steaming hot porridge with a little plate of fish stew for only 10.000 dong (around half a dollar). The venue is 8 km from the city’s center and on the way to the ancient town of Hoi An. The best time to visit the Marble Mountain is after 11:30 a.m. At the very best spot, you can even see the My Khe Beach from miles away and the rising up and down mountains made from the roofs of the surrounding houses. If going on your own, you can rent a motorbike, book a Grab car or hop on a bus. If in need of a local’s company to tell you stories of why the Marble mountains are highly appreciated by Danang habitats, you should book a private tour from the homestay you are staying at, or from either a restaurant or a hotel. DING! DING! DING! WAKE UP! It is a cliche but “GOOD MORNING VIETNAM” Ok, come with me, hop on my bike and lets head to beautiful My Khe beach. It is only 0400 after all. Don’t worry – coffee time soon. Hung over from the cheap cocktails – lets clear your head. Da Nang’s beautiful beach is surrounded by green mountains curving around the city. Lets go for a stroll, breathe in the sea air, watch some of the fisherman arriving back from their night’s work. Between 04:00 a.m and 06:00 a.m is the best time with the bonus of a beautiful sunrise. You will be joined by locals swimming, playing football, jogging or practicing yoga – all before the heat of the day. The sunrise on the famous My Khe beach in Da Nang city! Now for what Vietnamese consider to be the most important part of life (after beer and cigarettes) – FOOD! Now food in Vietnam is nothing like you have ever experienced before. It is a theater of sight, sound and smells. Take a seat please, push the dogs away – no room! – no problem! – squeeze in, and before you bum hits the seat your bowl of soup magically appears. No formalities required. Many street stalls specialise in one or two dishes only. That is all they make and they are expert at it. Getting up very early and cooking with a timeless skill and passion handed down through generations. The rubbish? – What rubbish? Oh, that. Never mind, that is a sign of satisfaction – a bit like Trip Advisor reviews – the more rubbish, the more satisfied customers. Running on the long beach in the early morning is extremely interesting!
