Red yeast rice, which corresponds to rice fermented with the red mould Monascus purpureus, has been used to enhance the colour and flavour of foods for centuries in China, but it has also been used as a traditional medicine for digestive and vascular health. Today, red yeast rice is used in Western countries as a food supplement and is recognised for its cholesterol-lowering properties. This porridge can be found on the intersection of Nguyen Chi Thanh and Thai Phien street. The restaurant opens between 5 a.m to 8 p.m, serving steaming hot porridge with a little plate of fish stew for only 10.000 dong (around half a dollar). Another venue is opposite 271 Nguyen Chi Thanh. You eat this dish by pouring on some of the accompanying stewed fish sauce. You will experience the subtle sweetness of cooked polished rice and brown sugar, blended with a slight saltiness and spice. Another choice for you is Bun Cha Ca (Bun = Noodle, Cha = Cake, Ca = Fish) offered at a small restaurant at 109 Nguyen Chi Thanh street. Each serving costs you from 25.000 to 55.000 dong ($1.50 – $2.50), depending on your choice of fish. There is tuna, anchovy and mackerel, served with boiled eggs and vegetables. The broth tastes subtly sweet from the fresh ingredients; the addition of vegetables not only brings a unique taste to the dish but also is good for you. There are many more favourite dishes for breakfast such as Bun Bo Hue, vegetarian dishes and of course the famous Pho. FULL? Ok lets finish breakfast with heart stopping coffee. Now Vietnam coffee is very strong, made from Robusta beans and comes in a variety of ways – like in the west, but commonly enjoyed as drip coffee. Vietnamese are great coffee drinkers and is frequently associated with social gatherings, particularly of young people. Vietnam has fantastic coffee cafes, however the really unique ones are hard to find without a guide. Here is my list of great coffee crawl list: – Café Long on 123 Le Loi Street, Hai Chau District – Nam House on 15/1 Le Hong Phong, Hai Chau District – The Espresso Station on 4 Tran Phu, Hai Chau District – Why Roastery Coffee on 64 Ung Van Khiem, Ngu Hanh Sơn District You can stay at the coffee shop for as long as your heart’s content, but to have time to explore other destinations, you should immediately hit the road and head to the Marble Mountains right now! At this site, there are five mountain peaks representing for the five fates in Vietnamese culture: Metal-Wood-Water-Fire-Soil. The venue is 8 km from the city’s center and on the way to the ancient town of Hoi An. The best time to visit the Marble Mountain is after 11:30 a.m. At the very best spot, you can even see the My Khe Beach from miles away and the rising up and down mountains made from the roofs of the surrounding houses. If going on your own, you can rent a motorbike, book a Grab car or hop on a bus. If in need of a local’s company to tell you stories of why the Marble mountains are highly appreciated by Danang habitats, you should book a private tour from the homestay you are staying at, or from either a restaurant or a hotel. Alternatively, you can search online to find tours offered at a price best for your budget; Tripadvisor is a helpful website for you to find your ideal tour. I hope the information above will be a great help you in having a wonderful morning in Danang! How should you enjoy your morning in Danang?
DING! DING! DING! WAKE UP!
It is a cliche but “GOOD MORNING VIETNAM”
Ok, come with me, hop on my bike and lets head to beautiful My Khe beach. It is only 0400 after all. Don’t worry – coffee time soon. Hung over from the cheap cocktails – lets clear your head.
Da Nang’s beautiful beach is surrounded by green mountains curving around the city.
Lets go for a stroll, breathe in the sea air, watch some of the fisherman arriving back from their night’s work. Between 04:00 a.m and 06:00 a.m is the best time with the bonus of a beautiful sunrise.
You will be joined by locals swimming, playing football, jogging or practicing yoga – all before the heat of the day.
The sunrise on the famous My Khe beach in Da Nang city!
Now for what Vietnamese consider to be the most important part of life (after beer and cigarettes) – FOOD! Now food in Vietnam is nothing like you have ever experienced before. It is a theater of sight, sound and smells.
Take a seat please, push the dogs away – no room! – no problem! – squeeze in, and before you bum hits the seat your bowl of soup magically appears. No formalities required. Many street stalls specialise in one or two dishes only. That is all they make and they are expert at it. Getting up very early and cooking with a timeless skill and passion handed down through generations.
The rubbish? – What rubbish? Oh, that. Never mind, that is a sign of satisfaction – a bit like Trip Advisor reviews – the more rubbish, the more satisfied customers.
Running on the long beach in the early morning is extremely interesting!
So now LET’s EAT!
The first recommendation is porridge made from unpolished rice or red yeast rice.
