What do you do when putting your feet for the first time on a new land? For me, it’s definitely about food! I will try lots of commonly famous local food as much as I can and Da Nang noodle dishes are exactly my cup of tea! Please follow me now to experience Da Nang top 5 must-try noodle dishes to find a true experience for yourself.

Firstly, I want to get your attention about Vietnamese cuisine that focuses on the balance of flavors in cooking. Most of the noodle dishes always include meat, herbs, soy sauce, rice noodle, vegetables or fruits which are great ingredients for your delicious noodle bowl – and don’t have too many calories – but still fill your hungry belly!

Tadaaa… Finally, here they are:

1. Bun Cha Ca (Fishcake Noodle Soup)

Another choice for your breakfast could be Bun Cha Ca (or Fishcake Noodle). Why is this called the Fishcake Noodle? Because Danang has the long beach with a rich source of seafood which is the amazing ingredient for this type of cooking.

Bun Cha Ca (The Vietnamese noodle) at Nguyen Chi Thanh

Made from chunks of grilled fishcake, rice noodle, green onions, bean sprouts and mints leaves,  Bun Cha Ca is very healthy. It has the natural sweetness from fish head and bones which are cooked from 30 to 45 minutes. All of the ingredients can be found in the local garden or sea, and it not only sounds great but is delicious!

To try a delicious bun cha ca, let’s come to:

– Bun Cha Ca on 109 Nguyen Chi Thanh Str

– Ta Grandfather (Ong Ta) on 113A Nguyen Chi Thanh Str

– Lu Grandmother (Ba Lu) on 317 Hung Vuong Str

2.  My Quang (Quang Nam Style noodle)

My Quang or Quang Nam style noodle is the most common Vietnamese dish that originates from Quang Nam province which is next to Da Nang. It’s made from shrimp, pork, chicken, fish or beef with vegetables, herbs, rice noodle and a special broth which will impress your taste.

My Quang (Quang Nam Style noodle)

A Quang style noodle costs only from 10000 VND to 30000 VND (about $0.5 – $1.5). It’s so so cheap for an amazing dish that you can try it at any time. When tasting it, don’t forget to take a little bit lemon juice or chili which will surely blow your soul.

My favorite places we usually spend time is:

– Mua Grandmother restaurant (Ba Mua) on 19 – 21 Tran Binh Trong Str

– Thi restaurant (Quan Thi) on 251 Hoang Dieu Str

– Ngan Grandmother restaurant (Ba Ngan) on 108 Dong Da Str

3. Bun Mam (Vermicelli noodles with fish sauce)

In my top 5 must-try noodles that I will share with you, Bun Mam stands on number 3. This dish has unique flavours and is very different from anything you may have tried before. Most foreigners may not fully appreciate the special flavours which fish sauce contributes to many Vietnamese dishes due to its pungency.  And all fish sauces are not the same – a bit like wine – each has a different aging and fermenting process. The fish sauce added to Bun Mam is made from anchovy and a little bit of chili.

Bun Thit Nuong (Vermicelli Noodles With Grilled Pork)

When eating it, let’s add some lettuce, basil, fresh herbs, and shredded papaya or green jackfruit to have a more delicious dish.

Addresses that I like are on:

– 23 Tran Ke Xuong Str

– No.3, Lane 424, Le Duan Str

– 144 Hoang Dieu Str

– 140 Huynh Thuc Khang Str

4. Bun Thit Nuong (Vermicelli Noodles With Grilled Pork)

I remembered the first time I tried Bun Thit Nuong was in the markets with my mom. When the grandmother brought a bowl with lots of grilled pork, rice noodle, fresh herbs and vegetable and some chilis I felt so excited and ate a lot. So when foreigners come to Danang, I always introduce this dish to them.

It’s made from thin vermicelli rice noodles, freshly chopped lettuce, sliced cucumber, bean sprouts, pickled daikon, basil, chopped peanuts, and mint, topped with grilled pork. And to have a delicious bowl, you can come to:

– Trai Grandmother (Ba Trai) on 194 Dong Da Str

– Phu Hong on 19 Yen Bai Str

– Con Market on cross Ong Ich Khiem and Hung Vuong Str

5. Banh Canh (Vietnamese Cake Soup)

Different from any of the above noodle dishes, Banh Canh or Vietnamese Cake soup has long and bigger rice noodles with some slices of grilled fish cake and fresh herbs. A bowl is normally not big so you can eat two bowls! Only 20.000 VND (or 2$) for one. It’s very cheap that you can eat this anytime in the day.

Banh Canh (Vietnamese Cake Soup)

Banh Canh is sold in many restaurants in Danang, but I think the best way to taste is sitting down on a pavement. That’s exactly Vietnamese styles!
